REV. JACOB R. SUTTON, PASTOR

The Rev. Jacob R. Sutton was installed as the tenth pastor of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Terre Haute, on October 2, 2011.

Pastor Sutton was born in Seymour, Indiana, and was baptized on June 17, 1973, at Zion Lutheran Church, Seymour, Indiana. His family moved to the Lanesville, Indiana area (near Louisville, Kentucky) in 1984, and he was catechized and confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lanesville, in 1987. He studied chemistry at the University of Wyoming, Laramie, and earned a bachelor of science degree in 1995. He worked as a chemist for a small company in Louisville for eight years, living again in southern Indiana.

Pastor Sutton met and married his wife Karie in 1999, when she came to St. John’s Lanesville as a graduate of Concordia University, Chicago, to teach in the Lutheran day school at St. John’s. God has blessed their marriage with three sons, Noah, Adam, and Levi.

Pastor Sutton prepared for the Holy Ministry at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and graduated with a master of divinity degree in 2007. He was privileged to sing in the seminary Kantorei and serve on the Kramer Chapel staff at the seminary. He served as Immanuel's eighteenth vicar from 2005-2006, under the supervision of (now Emeritus) Pastor Philip Meyer. He was ordained into the office of the Holy Ministry on June 24, 2007, at Faith Lutheran Church, Plano, Texas, where he served as Associate Pastor from 2007-2011.

REV. GARY W. SCHULTZ, KANTOR

The Rev. Gary W. Schultz serves as Kantor of Immanuel, since May 2016. He serves as organist, choir director, and coordinates instruments and soloists.

Rev. Schultz was born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was baptized into Christ on July 12, 1981 at Messiah Lutheran Church - Fort Wayne. He graduated from Concordia Lutheran School in 1996 and Concordia Lutheran High School in 2000. His parents, Kenneth and Linda, were also blessed with two other children: Mark and Laura.

Rev. Schultz studied pre-seminary, parish music, and theological languages at Concordia University—Mequon, Wisconsin, and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in 2004. He prepared for the Holy Ministry at Concordia Theological Seminary—Fort Wayne, and graduated with a master of divinity degree in 2008. His vicarage was served under the Rev. Kenneth W. Wieting at Luther Memorial Chapel—Shorewood, Wisconsin.

His musical training includes the study of organ under Wayne Petersen, James Freese, John Behnke, and Kevin Hildebrand. He served as organist at St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church—Milwaukee (2001-2004), Ascension Lutheran Church—Fort Wayne (2004-2006), and Shepherd of the City Lutheran Church—Fort Wayne (2007-2008). He sang in the Kammerchor of Concordia University Wisconsin, the Kantorei of Concordia Theological Seminary, the Fort Wayne Bach Collegium, the Detroit Lutheran Singers, and the Community Chorus of Detroit.

Prior to serving at Immanuel, Kantor Schultz served as Pastor of Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church—Eagle Grove, Iowa, Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church—Rowan, Iowa; and as Kantor of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church—Detroit.
